With lots of candy canes in the house for Christmas I figured it was a perfect time for a lesson using the mortar and pestle.
I purchased both of the mortar and pestle's HERE from Montessori-N-Such. The wooden one was not very easy for the kids to crush candy canes, but would work great for egg shells or something smaller. The ceramic one worked great for the candy canes, and was a lot easier for the littler ones to be able to use.
Ethan, Cody and Anthony all loved doing this, and it kept them busy for hours, before they ran out of candy canes.
The candy canes were used for decorations at our Christmas party, but there were so many left, Serena came up with the great idea of using the rest to sprinkle into hot chocolate :-)
