Review: Zane Education

Zane Education is an online video provider that offers access to a very large range of lessons that are set to National and State Curriculum Standards for K-12th grade. To make Zane Education one of a kind, all their videos (except math) offer on screen subtitles which they refer to as the "missing piece." Along with the amazing amount of video content they also offer getting started guide, quizzes, interactive video study tools, free lesson plans, and more content is being added regularly!

"The Missing Piece"
Some of the benefits of subtitled video learning is that it effectively provides for virtually every learning style, enabling each child to choose to process the information by watching, listening to, or reading each presentation thereby allowing them to process that information in the most beneficial and effective manner. Research show that added subtitles had the potential to dramatically improve children's reading/literary skills.

Getting Started Walkthrough:
Zane offers an easy to use program, simply log onto Zane's website and click on Videos and then choose how you would like to view the available videos, they offer videos by subject, videos by grade, or view all videos.
Once you choose what video you want to view your screen will look like this. As you can see you have online interactive study tools on the right side of the screen, so students can further explore any chosen topic. If I choose View All Videos they are split up into subjects as seen below. Once you find the video you want to view just click on the title.

Below is a screenshot of what an actual lesson looks like, and all the information available during the lesson.
How Zane Education was used in our homeschool:
Zane Education, had been a great way for me to put together our science studies and incorporate subtitled videos for all of my children. Most of my kiddos are visual learners so having video curriculum with added subtitles is a great resource for us!

Some of the great videos we have been enjoying are the ocean series, and the USA videos, the kids have learned so much from watching these videos. Dustin has even come up to me on multiple occasions with random facts from the videos and told me I didn't know this or that before the video.
I am also using Zane education as a supplemental program for Cody who struggles from dyslexia and will often rush through his studies, not understanding or even reading the right words. These videos have been an amazing way for him to improve his reading skills while learning about any given topic. When he is given the quizzes he is doing great on them, the fact that the quizzes don't just tell you how many you have gotten incorrect, they tell you the correct answer so that they can see where their mistakes have been made have been a huge help, the improvements he has made have been amazing!!

My feelings about Zane Education:
Zane Education is a subscription that I will continue using to supplement our curriculum studies through the year, not only do I love it but the children do as well! One of the huge benefits for us is that I do not have to pay a separate membership fee for each of my children, 1 membership fee and all the children can use it! I would also recommend it to anyone looking for amazing subtitled video content to supplement or for a complete curriculum, especially large families looking for video content that wont break the bank in order for the whole family to use it.

There have not been to many downsides to the program, and the couple of them I did see were not enough to change how we felt about the program, just figured I would mention them for anyone who would have a problem with them.
-I would suggest watching the videos before allowing children to watch them, there is some Sex Education videos that I feel are not appropriate for my younger kids, careful monitoring while children are on the computer has made this not a problem in our house.

-You cannot watch the video in full screen mode, which would make viewing of the videos a lot nicer! Each of my kiddos at one point and time checked to see if there was a way to increase the size of the video.
