Homeschool Mother's Journal

With how busy things have been around here I don't seem to have much time to keep you updated on all the personal things going on around our house or even a lot of our school lately. I have decided to try and post every week for the Homeschool Mothers Journal to work on keeping you updated more on our personal life which can be crazy at best some days!

In My Life This Week:
I am finally feeling back to normal after dealing with terrible pneumonia for almost 3 weeks, and then having to get back on all my arthritis meds. Just as the little ones get sick again, I am remembering how much I really dislike cold and flu season :) We had Ethan's school conferences this past week, which let us know just how far Ethan has really come, his teacher is guessing with how he has progressed that he will not qualify for speech next year which means after about 4 years of working intensely with speech therapists it has finally payed off. If Ethan no longer needs speech services he will join the rest of the kids in full time homeschooling!!

In Our Homeschool this week...
We started back to school and are working to get back to our routine, with me getting sick meant we didn't get much done other then our core classes. Now I am trying to figure out how I can move the school room around because the little ones just love to go down there and trash it!

Places we're going and people we're seeing...
After Ethan's conferences me and Jake went out for dinner and shopping with out any kids. We have been working hard to make sure we take time out for us, especially now that we have older kids that can help babysit! The boys went bowling with their Cub Scout troop last week, Jake took all the boys and let me and Serena stay home it is amazing how quiet it is in our house without all the boys!

I am praying for...
All the victims of Hurricane Sandy, they have so much work to do with the clean up from the hurricane already! Now some of them have got slammed with another nor eastern storm that is causing lots of snow and very cold temperatures. With a lot of these people still not having power, they are worried about hypothermia. I am praying God gives them strength, direction, warmth, and comforts them during this difficult time!

Things working/not working for us...
You may remember my post at the beginning of the school year when we changed half of our school room into a Sensory Motor Room for the kids, well it has been a few months with the new set up and it is NOT WORKING for us, I go down to giant disasters regularly down there. The little boys go down and have lots of fun with all my organized sensory bin containers throwing them everywhere... So I am in the process of figuring out how things will work down there. This is what I know for now, our school storage area will be turned into our school room, the storage area will be moved back into the storage area in the basement, and the school room/sensory motor room will turn into a playroom/sensory motor room/family room, and there will be a lock on the door that leads to the school room so little ones will not be tempted to play with all the things they need to be supervised playing with. Stay tuned for the tour...

I'm Reading...
Five Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter by Vicki Courtney
As my kids get older I am less prepared for the struggles that I come up against on a regular basis, so I am working on educating myself on parenting teenagers, anyone know of any good books? One of my favorite quotes from the first chapter,
"Our Daughters need to know that God's standards for beauty are the only standard that matter" So far this has been a wonderful book, I'll keep you updated on it!

My Favorite Thing From This Week Was...
Hearing the story of Gabe bowling, he pushed the bowling ball down the alley and then started to run after it, anyone who has been bowling knows if you go out into the lane it is very slippery, well he slipped and fell, everyone on the boys troop was laughing...

I Am Grateful for...
Finally having the energy to get some things done that have been slacking while I was sick... My family, I am grateful for them even when they are driving me crazy :)

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...
Since I haven't gotten around to posting a Halloween post yet, here is a picture of all the kids we took out trick-or-treating with us, we had our kids, our niece, and the neighbor girls, it was such a fun night for everyone!

Ok, so I had to share 2 pictures. If you look carefully at Gabes face he was having a very serious conversation with his cousin, it was to cute...

I am linking up with...
